This rewarding volunteer role would suit applicants that love animals and are committed to improving their welfare; people who wish to experience hands-on work with animals and want to learn about the care and health requirements for future work in the industry; and anyone looking for a worthwhile way to spend their time. Volunteers must be 18 yrs of age or over to apply.

The position will involve the daily cleaning of the animals' pens which will involve hands on work hosing, sweeping and scooping up of poop! Hygiene control is very important, as is ensuring that the animals remain stocked up with food, water, bedding and toys. Assistance will also be required in duties such as ensuring the Shelter environment is presentable, helping with laundry duties and general tidying up.

People applying for this position need to be happy to work hard, be physically fit, and be willing to get their hands dirty for a good cause!

The position is available Monday - Sunday with a minimum commitment of 1 x 4 hour shift per week. Full orientation and training will be provided.

Skills required – Confidence with animals, the ability to work independently, the ability to stand for long periods, be physically fit, ability to cope with increased noise levels, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions.

Skills to be gained – Animal husbandry, animal handling and training techniques, animal disease control, animal shelter experience, basic animal behaviour knowledge.
