Volunteer Animal Care Assistant

Townsville

  • Are you committed to improving animal welfare?
  • Are you hard working?
  • Do you want to make a difference?

This rewarding volunteer role would suit any applicants that love animals and are committed to improving their welfare; people wishing to experience hands-on work with animals and want to learn about the basic care and health requirements for future work in the industry; and anyone looking for a worthwhile way to spend their spare time. Volunteers must be 18 yrs of age or over to apply.

VOLUNTEER ROLES ARE LIMITED - GET IN QUICK!

The role involves the daily cleaning of the animals' pens, which involved hosing, sweeping, and scooping poop! Hygiene control is very important, as is keeping the animals stocked up with food, water, bedding and toys. This role also involves assisting in keeping the Shelter environment presentable, helping with Laundry duties and general tidying up. Volunteers in this role need to be happy to work hard (be physically fit) and be willing to get their hands dirty.

As enrichment is such a key component in supporting the animals-in-care, it is possible that selected animal care volunteers can progress to combining this role with a Behaviour Enrichment role. RSPCA encourages the training in Behaviour Enrichment for suitable candidates. Behaviour Enrichment includes tasks such as: dog walking, basic animal behaviour training, and making enrichment toys.

The volunteer role is available 7.30am-11.30am or 1.00pm to 4.00pm, any day of the week, and we request a minimum commitment of 1 x four hour shift per week for three months. Full orientation and training is provided.
