RSPCA Queensland Volunteers Website

Who are our volunteers?

We currently have nearly 2000 volunteers throughout Queensland working in all areas of the Society's operations.

With only approximately 180 paid staff for the whole state, our volunteers are the backbone of the organisation…and without them RSPCA Qld wouldn't exist!

What demographics make up the basis of our volunteer force?

  • University students
  • Retirees
  • Highly skilled consultants
  • Corporate volunteers
  • Work experience students
  • Long-term unemployed
  • People who love animals
  • People who like working with people

Why do people volunteer?

People volunteer with the RSPCA Queensland because they:

  • want to make a difference
  • admire the work of RSPCA QLD
  • would like to meet new people
  • would like to learn or practice new skills
  • want to contribute to their communities
  • would like to learn new skills or improve old skills to assist with re-entering the workforce

It’s great having volunteers assist in the wildlife hospital. Whether it’s cleaning cages, feeding joeys or releasing recovered patients the vollies help to provide essential care to every patient. Each member of the team has different skills, knowledge and life stories and that’s what makes working with the volunteers so enjoyable. I don’t know what we’d do without them!
